EVANSTON, Ill. - It's that time again! The defending Big Ten champion women's tennis team opens the 2003 season with a home match against intracity rival DePaul at the Combe Tennis Center today. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
The Wildcats, ranked 12th nationally, are looking forward to getting the new season underway.
"I'm excited to get out there and play and see how our team is," said head coach Claire Pollard. It's going to be a tough one."
The Wildcats face DePaul today in each team's season opener. The Blue Demons are led by All-Conference USA player Szilvia Kelemen. The team finished 15-5 (4-0 Conference USA) a year ago.
Northwestern boasts four ranked players according to the preseason (Jan. 13) poll announced by Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings-Cristelle Grier (16); Marine Piriou (18); Jessica Rush (63) and Jamie Peisel (76).
