CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Senior John Giacche (Flemington, N.J./Blair Academy) paced Northwestern with his second-place finish at 141 pounds Saturday at the 52nd annual University of Northern Iowa Open.
Giacche reached the final where he met Indiana's Coule Cooper, but fell short in a 3-1 decision.
Senior Brendan Curran (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel) also wrestled well in Iowa. Curran placed third at 184 pounds.
The host Panthers, ranked No. 17 in the InterMat poll, had six first-place finishers with a total of 11 wrestlers that placed.
Northwestern opens its dual meet season Dec. 14 as it hosts Eastern Illinois and Wisconsin-Parkside. Competition is set to begin at noon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
