EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 9-15. This week's women's recipient is basketball's Kristin Ambrose (Minnetonka, Minn./The Blake School), while the men's representative is wrestling's Brendan Curran (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel).
The day after finals ended, Ambrose, a sophomore, lit up the Salukis of Southern Illinois for 19 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in Northwestern's 75-62 rout of SIU. Ambrose's 19 points and seven rebounds were both team highs.
Ambrose, the first player off the bench, was 6-of-9 from the floor, including two three pointers. She also went 5-of-7 from the free throw line.
Curran, a senior, led the 'Cats to a pair of wins Saturday against Eastern Illinois and Wisconsin-Parkside. Curran won both of his matches by fall at 184 pounds. Curran pinned UWP's Luke Griffiths at the 2:40 mark and pinned EIU's Josh Lepper at the 1:41 mark.
Curran, who has fared well of late, placed sixth at the Missouri Open and third at the Northern Iowa Open earlier this fall.
