EVANSTON, Ill. - On the heels of a narrow 2-1 loss to No. 20 Penn State, Northwestern responded Sunday against Western Michigan for a 1-0 win at Lakeside Field. Freshman Eric Brin (Westlake, Calif./Westlake) scored his second goal of the season, and goalkeeper J.D. Martin (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) earned his fourth shutout.
Jeremy Cook (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) put a nice move on a Bronco midfielder to set up Brin, who chipped it past WMU goalkeeper Ian Spooner.
"I thought Jeremy Cook was fantastic, and Eric Brin was our hero today," said NU head coach Tim Lenahan.
The Wildcats dominated the match, outshooting the Broncos 12-3 and maintaining possession of the ball a majority of the time.
"Defensively, we did a pretty good job," Lenahan said. "Once we got the lead we wanted to manage the game, and we did that."
Northwestern, which improved to 5-6 this season, returns to action on Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. at No. 4 Indiana.
