Rose Named USA Open Water Swimmer of the Year

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University junior swimmer Erica Rose (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) was recently named the USA Swimming Open Water Swimmer of the Year. Rose was bestowed the honor during the opening session of the USA Swimming House of Delegates in Dallas, Tex.

In May, Rose became the first foreigner to win the Wuhan International Yangtze River Speed-Crossing Competition in China.

She is a four-year member of the US Swimming National Team in open water swimming. Rose was the 1998 world champion and 1999 Pan Pacific champion in 5K open water, and has also won three national championships at 5K and the past two at 10K.

Rose added to her long list of open water titles by taking first place at the 10K For the USA Swim in Atlantic City, N.J. on Sept. 7.
