NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School) added two singles wins on Saturday after picking up a pair of doubles wins the previous day, highlighting Northwestern's second day of competition at the Notre Dame Invitational.
Perrin knocked off Harvard's Oli Choo 6-3, 7-6 (5) and later defeated Maryland's Scott Peters 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3).
The Wildcats got a win from No. 76 Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), who knocked off Maryland's Chris Chiu 6-2, 6-1. Josh Axler (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) and Justin Hoeveler (Ross, Calif./The Branson School) also notched their first wins of the season. Axler defeated Troy Demers, 6-4, 6-4 and Hoeveler downed Pierre Rudder, 6-4, 6-4.
Due to logistical reasons arising when the 11-team tournament moved from the outdoor Courtney Tennis Center to the indoor Eck Tennis Pavilion, five teams, including Northwestern, chose to forego the final day of play at the Tom Fallon Invitational at Notre Dame.
The outdoor facility has 24 courts, but rain forced the tournament inside, giving priority over the six indoor courts to the teams that scheduled flights back home.
Northwestern returns to action Sept. 27-29 at the adidas Invitational in Peachtree City, Ga.
