Fall Season Underway; Through Two Rounds at the Inverness, 'Cats in Ninth Place

TOLEDO, Ohio -- After two rounds of the Second Annual Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational, held at the famed Inverness Country Club, Northwestern's men's golf team is in ninth place, six strokes behind Oklahoma State and three strokes in front of Illinois.

This is the season-opening fall tournament for the Wildcats, who graduated just one golfer (Chris Thayer) from a year ago.

Junior Tom Johnson (Weaverville, Calif./Del Campo) is tied for fifth place, five strokes off the lead. After shooting a 5-over 76 on the first 18, Johnson came back to shoot a 1-under 70 in the afternoon. Senior Bjorn Widerstedt (Vasteras, Sweden) is tied for 25th, with a 9-over 151 (75-76).

The tournament concludes Tuesday with the third and final round, starting at 8:30 a.m.
