EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week. The selections were made based on athletic competition from Sept. 2-8.
Against TCU, Jason Wright (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar) returned the opening kickoff of the game 100 yards for a touchdown against TCU, and he was just getting started. He also added a 74-yard return later in the game. All told, the junior running back returned three kickoffs for school-records of 191 yards and a 63.7-yard average. The performance earned Wright the Big Ten's Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
Freshman midfielder Holly Palin (Mequon, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) helped the field hockey team win its first game of 2002, scoring two goals against New Hampshire last Monday. The Wisconsin native leads the team with five points (two goals, one assist). In fact, her five points were the most a freshman has scored in an entire season since Lisa Comrie tallied 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists) in 1998.
