Northwestern Equipment Manager Bill Jarvis has been named the All-American Football Foundation's 2002 Outstanding Equipment Manager. Jarvis will be honored at the Foundation's 45th Banquet of Champions, to be held Sept. 12 at the Chicago Athletic Club.
Jarvis is in his 27th year as Northwestern's equipment manager. His primary responsibilities include coordinating equipment for all 19 NU teams and ensuring that all equipment meets appropriate safety standards.
A 1970 graduate of Ashland (Ohio) College, Jarvis served as the equipment manager at his alma mater for six years before coming to NU. He was named the District 5 Equipment Manager of the Year in 1995, and has served on the All-American Advisory Board, which suggests safety changes for athletic equipment.
In addition to Jarvis, two others with NU ties will be honored at the banquet. Former players Sanford Sacks (1952-55) and Larry Onesti (1959-61) are among the recipients of the Foundation's Bill Wade Unsung Hero Award.
The All-American Football Foundation is a non-profit group comprised of more than 150 colleges and universities across the country.
