EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Sporting News has announced that Northwestern's two All-America football candidates, center Austin King (Cincinnati, Ohio/Purcell Marian) and guard Jeff Roehl (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg), have landed spots on its Big Ten preseason team. TSN's annual college football preseason magazine hits the newstands later this month.
King was named TSN's Big Ten second-team center, but the nation's fourth-ranked snapper. Roehl was tabbed a first-team Big Ten selection and the nation's 12th-ranked offensive guard.
A starter in 31 of his last 32 games, King is a two-time honorable mention All-Big Ten selection. He is also a Rimington and a Verizon Academic All-America awards candidate.
Roehl, who transferred from Notre Dame in 1999, has started all 23 games at guard since becoming eligible to play for NU in 2000. He is an Outland Trophy candidate.
"Both Austin and Jeff have been two of our best players on offense the past few years, if not the best," said Northwestern Coach Randy Walker. "Any preseason honors they receive this summer will be deserving. They're the catalysts for our offense this season."
