EVANSTON, Ill. - Three Northwestern women's lacrosse players and two coaches recently participated in the U.S. Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament. The quintet played for the Great Lakes Team, joining forces with several players from Midwestern schools such as NCAA participants Notre Dame and Ohio State.

The National Tournament, which is considered this country's premier women's lacrosse event of the year, took place May 25-26 at Lehigh (Pa.) University and featured nearly 60 teams at the club and high school levels. The event also serves as a showcase for players looking to make the U.S. National and Developmental teams.

Sarah Albrecht, Donna McCann and Angela McMahon were the three NU players on the roster, while head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller -- a member of three U.S. World Cup teams -- and assistant coach Keely McDonald also competed. The Wildcats' other assistant, Laura Peace, was a coach for the team.

Great Lakes ended up winning the Division II club championship, going a perfect 5-0 for the weekend. As a result, they will move up to Division I for next year's event and thus play for the President's Cup.

"Our players all fit in really well, both skill-wise and talent-wise," said Amonte Hiller. "It was also fun for me to play with them and form a bond on the field. They got to play with some great players and achieve success, and I hope they had a good experience and continue competing in future years."
