STANFORD, Calif. - Marine Piriou's season came to an end today at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium, as the nation's 33rd-ranked singles player fell to Florida's Jessica Lehnhoff 7-5, 6-1, in the second round of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championships. Piriou finishes the season with a 30-16 overall record.
In the second match between these two this year -- and in less than a week -- Piriou and Lehnhoff, the top-ranked player in the nation, battled it out in the first set, but Piriou could not pull out the win, falling 7-5. The second set was all Lehnhoff, as she stormed to a 6-1 win to advance to the third round of competition.
The two met last Thursday in the NCAA Tournament's Round of 16, where Lehnhoff won in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) to lead Florida to a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats.
