Transfer Student Choses Northwestern Volleyball

EVANSTON, Ill. - Head coach Keylor Chan has signed another recruit for the 2002 volleyball season. Iwona Lodzik, a native of Poland, will transfer from Triton College in River Grove, Ill.

Lodzik, a 6-1 outside hitter, was a standout at Triton. She was named to the first-team All-N4C Conference and all-region teams in 2000 and 2001. Lodzik helped Triton to a second-place finish in the 2001 regionals.

Last season Lodzik hit at a .437 clip with 90 digs. Against conference opponents she averaged 3.48 kills per game.

Lodzik's international experience includes competition against junior national teams from Russia, Denmark, Germany and Austria as a member of the Polish Junior National Team. She has played for the Siarka club team in Poland since 1992, winning the national title in 1997.

In 1997, Lodzik spent six months in the National Training Center, follwed by a summer training with a professional volleyball team in 1998.

Born in Tarnobrzeg, Poland, she is the daughter of Renata and Tadeusz Lodzik. Her mother was a professional basketball player in Poland.
