EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's baseball team opened up Saturday's doubleheader with a 3-0 loss to Indiana at Rocky Miller Park. The loss drops NU to 22-27 overall and 12-15 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers used timely two-out hitting to hand NU its second straight defeat.
IU got on the board early against left-hander Ryan Bos (Barrington, Ill./Lake Zurich) as shortstop Eric Blakeley hit a first-inning solo home run over the left center field wall to put the Hoosiers up 1-0.
That was all Indiana would need as hits were hard to come by for the 'Cats. Senior Zach Otte pitched a complete-game four-hitter, shutting down the Wildcat offense. He allowed only one runner past second base in the entire game as the left-hander struck out six improving his record to 7-3 on the year.
By comparison, Bos gave up only two hits, but walked seven, falling to 4-6. Bos did strike out five and lowered his ERA to 2.59 as only two of the Hoosier runs were earned.
Center fielder David Gresky (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Ignatius), catcher Ken Padgett (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe), designated hitter Jason Krynski (Niles, Ill./Niles West) and left fielder Dan Pohlman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) were the only Wildcats to record hits.
