Erin Hussey Leaving Northwestern Women's Soccer

May 15, 2002

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's soccer coach Jenny Haigh announced the departure of the Wildcats' top assistant coach recently. Erin Hussey has decided to leave Northwestern to take a job as the top assistant coach at Santa Clara University, which won the NCAA championship last fall. She will be leaving Evanston at the end of May.

Hussey spent three seasons on the Wildcats' staff, including this past season as the top assistant under Haigh.

"A part of me is sad, because I think Northwestern is going to have a special year next fall and I won't be here to see it," said Hussey. "However, the chance to work with [Santa Clara head coach] Jerry Smith and the defending national champions was too good a professional opportunity for me to pass up. Having said that, I will miss the exceptional group of women we have here at Northwestern tremendously."

"We are sad to see Erin leave us, but excited for her to have this opportunity," said Haigh, who will be entering her second season at the NU helm this fall. "She has been an extremely valuable part of our program in my short time here, and she will be missed by all of us. We're excited to see her pursue her career, though, and we wish her nothing but the best."
