EVANSTON, Ill. -- With its improved performances in the season's final weeks, Northwestern's men's golf team is headed to the NCAA Central Regional Championships in Little Rock, Ark. Competition for the 27-team regional is set for Thursday through Saturday, May 16-18.
The men's golf squad became the fourth NU spring sport to qualify for NCAA postseason play with Monday evening's announcement.
The Wildcats are seeded 20th in the postseason event. Two other Big Ten teams, seventh-seeded Purdue and 15th-seeded Illinois, will join the Wildcats at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock.
Northwestern advanced to the NCAA National Championships four straight years (1997-2000) before coming up short a year ago. Last year, NU placed 15th among 27 teams at the NCAA Central Regional in Stillwater, Okla.
The top 10 teams and top two individuals will advance to the national championships, which are being hosted by Ohio State at its Scarlet Course, May 29-June 1.
The Wildcats are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships in Iowa. NU was led by junior Scott Harrington, who finished 6-under-par and second overall.
