After One Round, Men's Golf in Second Place at Big Ten Championships

May 3, 2002

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Paced by a 3-under-par 69 from junior Scott Harrington (Portland, Ore./Jesuit), Northwestern's men's golf team finished with a 1-over 289 -- good enough for second place -- following the first round of the Big Ten Championships at Iowa's Finkbine Golf Course. Harrington is sitting in second place, one stroke off the lead.

Purdue is off to a fast start and has the team lead after firing a 9-under 279 for the first 18 holes.

Joining Harrington atop the leaderboard is sophomore Tom Johnson (Fair Oaks, Calif./Del Campo), who is tied for sixth place at 2-under par. Johnson eagled the par-5 No. 15 hole to climb back into championship contention.
