BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The top-seeded Wildcat women's tennis team moved a step closer to capturing their fourth straight Big Ten Championship title with a 4-1 win over eighth-seeded Purdue in the quartrfinals this morning at the Indiana University Tennis Center.
Northwestern swept doubles to win the first point of the match. In singles the 'Cats won three matches in straight sets to seal the victory. Lia Jackson defeated Gretchen Haynor, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2. At No. 3, Jessica Rush downed Melissa Woods (6-2, 6-1), and Ruth Barnes defeated Shawna Zuccarini at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3). Purdue's only point of the match came at No. 1 as Melissa Iqbal topped Marine Piriou, 6-3, 6-0.
The Wildcats will meet Iowa on Saturday, April 27 at 10:30 a.m.
