Women's Tennis Claims Big Ten Regular-Season Title with 7-0 Win over Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Northwestern women's tennis snapped Ohio State's 14-match home winning streak today with a 7-0 win over the Buckeyes at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center. With the win, the Wildcats extended their conference winning streak to 25 matches, and their season record to 18-5 (10-0 Big Ten). Ohio State fell to 18-5 overall and 7-3 in the conference.

The Wildcats return to action next week as the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Women's Tennis Championships. As the No. 1 seed, Northwestern receives a bye and will meet the winner of the No. 8/No. 9 match on Friday, April 26. Match time has not been determined.

Northwestern won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the early lead. Marine Piriou and Jessica Rush, ranked 35th in the nation, defeated 49th-ranked Monica Rincon and Meaghan Colville, 8-3 at No. 1. Lia Jackson and Simona Petrutiu, ranked 30th, downed Erica Fisk and Sadhaf Pervez, 8-6, at No. 2.

The 'Cats swept the Buckeyes in singles to earn their 10th Big Ten victory of the season. This is the second consecutive year that the Wildcats have been undefeated in conference play.
