AUSTIN, Texas -- Playing in a tournament that included seven of the country's top-10 women's golf programs, Northwestern fired a team-best 315 in the third round to finish 10th out of 14 teams at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic. The Wildcats fell three strokes shy of tying seventh-ranked Arizona, which placed ninth.
Second-ranked Duke won the event, edging the host Longhorns by three strokes.
Senior Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) shot an 80 and a 79 in the second and third rounds to finish 24-over-par (237) and place 20th overall. Sophomore Hana Kim (Encino, Calif./Brentwood) shot a 77 in the third round, the best 18-hole score of any Wildcat in the tournament, to finish 28-over-par and tied for 31st.
Junior Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and freshman Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) placed 39th and 49th, respectively, with scores of 245 and 248.
The Wildcats, ranked 31st in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin national poll, will remain in Texas this week and play in the 2002 Women's Collegiate Shootout in San Antonio on Thursday and Friday, March 28-29.
