Late-Inning Cornell Rally Drops Baseball to 4-8

HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Northwestern played its second game of the Homestead Challenge and second of the day, falling to Cornell, 3-2. The Big Red scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to overcome a 2-0 deficit.

NU freshman James Happ (Peru, Ill./St, Bede Academy) started on the mound, throwing six shutout innings in the no decision. It was Happ's first collegiate start. He struck out three batters.

Offensively, NU scored single runs in the second and fourth innings a held the lead until the eighth.

Freshman Jon Mikrut (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) was responsible for the NU runs, picking up both RBI from the ninth spot in the order.

Junior outfielder Brandon Ackley (Carmel, Ind.Carmel) raised his batting average more than 50 points on the day, due in part to his 3-for-5 performance vs. Cornell.

The loss drops NU to 4-8 on the year. The 'Cats are next in action when they face Harvard at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
