EVANSTON, Ill. - In preparation for the 2002 women's volleyball season, Northwestern's team will host a pair of spring tournaments and will travel to a third during the month of April.
The first home tournament is set for the weekend of April 6, when the 'Cats will host the Chinese Olympic Development Team as well as regional foes Michigan and Notre Dame.
The Chinese team is basing their international tour out of Chicago and will play three Big Ten teams: Northwestern, Wisconsin and Illinois.
The following weekend, April 13, Northwestern will host Loyola-Chicago, UW-Milwaukee, Western Michigan, Kentucky, Valparaiso, Ferris State and Bowling Green.
To round out the spring schedule, the Wildcats will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., April 19-20 to face host UNLV, Hawai'i, Utah, Cal State-Fullerton, Fresno State, Idaho State, Missouri, Houston and Pittsburg. The Rainbow Wahine and the Utes each finished in the top 15 of the USA TODAY/AVCA Division I Coaches poll in 2001.
"It is very important for our team to play tough competition now," head coach Keylor Chan said. "We are a team that need the competitive matches to push us to the next level in Big Ten volleyball."
