PARRISH, Fla. -- Northwestern's women's golf team is tied for 11th place after the first two rounds of the Central District Classic, which is being played at the River Wilderness Country Club, a 6,109-yard, par-72 course. Michigan State University is hosting this year's event.
The third and final round of play is set for Tuesday morning.
The Spartans own a six-stroke advantage over Big Ten rival Purdue, and a 10-stroke lead over another Big Ten foe, Ohio State. The Wildcats are 34 strokes behind MSU and tied with Nebraska.
Freshman Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) led the Wildcats, shooting a 10-over-par 154 (76-68). She is tied for 36th place overall. Other top finishers included freshman Mary Ellen Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) (77-78=155) and senior Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) (78-78=156), who are tied for 44th and 48th, respectively.
Grzebien's older sister, Lauren, a sophomore, was competing as an individual. Unfortunately for Northwestern, she shot a team-best 4-over-par 148, but her scores did not count toward the Wildcats' team score. She is tied for ninth in the individual standings.
The Wildcats are the defending Central District Classic champion.
