Feb. 19, 2002

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University's commitment to academics among its student-athletes was once again put on display as the men's soccer squad earned the highest team grade point average by any men's soccer program in the nation. The announcement was made by National Soccer Coaches Association of America and adidas last week.

The Wildcats' 18-man squad, under the direction of first-year coach Tim Lenahan, posted a collective 3.57 GPA. The mark was .17 higher than second-place Rhodes College, an NCAA Division III school from Memphis. NU was the only Big Ten institution to record a team GPA higher than 3.0. Only 20 Division I colleges finished with a 3.0 or higher.
