Softball Drops Morning Game to No. 10 Cal State Fullerton, 11-2

SAN DIEGO -- After posting 10 runs in both games yesterday, the Northwestern softball team managed only two runs on eight hits against 10th-ranked Cal State Fullerton, Saturday morning at the Campbell/Cartier Tournament in San Diego, Calif. The loss drops the Wildcats' record to 3-5, while the Titans move to .500 at 5-5.

CSF scored in all but one inning en route to a season-high 11 runs. Christy Robitaille, in the circle for the Titans, held NU scoreless for four innings before she issued a bases-loaded walk to Cindy Muran in the bottom of the fifth. Erin Jancic gave NU another run in the inning after reaching on an error by the first baseman. Jancic's run gave NU new life as it took the mercy rule out of affect for the time.

The Titans scored two unanswered runs in the top half of the sixth to end the game via the eight-run rule.

Brie Brown pitched her second complete game of the season, surrendering 11 runs on 14 hits.

Brett Nakabayashi, Carri Leto and Robyn Pettinger each contributed two hits in the game.

NU will face Sacramento State at 3:30 EST this afternoon and wrap up the tournament against San Diego State Sunday morning.
