Women's Swimming and Diving Drops Final Dual of the Season to Michigan, 134-106

Ann Arbor, Mich. - Northwestern's women's swimming and diving squad (4-4-1, 2-3-1) fell for the second time in as many days. Thursday afternoon, the Wildcats lost to Notre Dame, 201-99. Tonight they fell to Big Ten foe Michigan, 134-106.

The Wolverines, who won the Big Ten title last season and are currently ranked 17th in the nation, won six individual swimming events, both springboard events and the 200 free relay to defeat the 'Cats.

Sophomore Katie Simmons (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) placed first in the 200 breaststroke for the third consecutive race. Her time of 2:16.12 was an NCAA B cut time.

Junior Carmen Cosgrove (Perth, Western Australia/Nebraska) took top honors in the 100 fly with an NCAA provisional time of 2:02.26. Cosgrove also led off the first-place 200 freestyle relay team.

Sophomore Erin Swenson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) was victorious in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.03. Swenson also placed second in the 100 freestyle (52.91).

With no more dual meets scheduled this season, NU will begin to train for the Big Ten Championships. The conference meet will be held back in Ann Arbor on Feb. 21-23.
