EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern fencing team travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend for the Air Force Invitational, where they will compete against some of the best teams in the country.
The No. 6 Wildcats, who currently hold a 15-1 record, will compete against host Air Force, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 4 Stanford and the team they are tied with at No. 6, Ohio State. Duke, Cal State Fullerton and San Diego round out the participants.
NU and OSU, classic rivals, have already done battle once this season, with the Wildcats taking the 15-12 win at Ohio State's own invitational.
This will be the first time the 'Cats take on Notre Dame this season, the team they defeated to win the Midwest Collegiate Fencing Conference Championship in 2001.
Having wrapped up their home schedule for the season, the Wildcats are eager to go on the road.
"We get to beat people on their home turf, instead of just defending ours," senior captain Lynn Zuckerman said.
Colorado Springs is also home to the United States Fencing Association, the sport's governing body.
