Grand Prairie, Texas - Northwestern wrestling went 1-3 in dual competition over the weekend at the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Wildcats defeated Navy 27-13, but fell to Nebraska-Kearney, 20-17, Stanford 24-12 and Brown 21-17. NU is now 3-4 in dual competition.
Highlighting the weekend was the performance of sophomore Ryan Kane (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley). The 165-pounder won all four of his matches, including a 17-10 decision over John Garfinkel of Stanford.
The weekend also marked the return of junior Jason Erwinski (Tinley Park, Ill./Mt. Carmel), who had been sidelined with an injury. Wrestling at his new weight of 174, Erwinski earned his first victory of the season against Navy's Jim Letchford, 12-6. Senior Rob Potashnick (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central), at 125, and junior John Giacche (Flemington, N.J./Blair Academy), at 141, each posted three wins at the duals. Giacche is now 15-5 on the year while Potashnick improves to 10-7.
The 'Cats are on the road again this weekend as they travel to Eastern Illinois. Match time is set for 7 p.m on Friday night. On Sunday, the 'Cats are in Ashland, Ohio for the Wendy Duals.
