EVANSTON, Ill. - Quoting the coaches following Northwestern's 80-42 win over Chicago State Saturday night...
Chicago State Head Coach Bo Ellis
On tonight's play
"You are not going to beat many people shooting 34 percent and with your opponent shooting 56 percent. We are talking about a team that is very patient, that runs their offense, and goes out and scores 80 points on us. Right now my team has got to focus and we have to get better defensively."
On when the team struggles
"I told them when things start to go bad that is when you have to execute and move the ball. Now I have some veteran kids, but I also have six or seven new kids that I am expecting a lot from and right now they are not understanding what it takes at this level."
On where to go from here
"My team is not this bad, I know that for a fact and they know it. At some point, they just have to dig down and have some pride and do the little things that it takes to win at this level."
Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody
On Jitim Young
"I got sort of excited watching him tonight. It just seemed like he was all over the court, stealing balls, taking balls over guys heads."
On Chicago State
"They played extremely hard. They took us out of our offense in the first half. They were small and they got under us and were making it difficult for us. They forced us out of our offense and pressured us into doing some things we shouldn't do."
On what to take from tonight's game
"I was pleased with the effort from both teams today. I think our team saw that these guys come after you a little bit and you've got to be prepared right from the get-go, and I didn't think we were. But then we remedied that in the last 30 minutes of the game."
