Northwestern Athletics Contributes Nearly $12,000 to Twin Towers Fund in New York

Nov. 28, 2001

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University's Department of Athletics has made a financial contribution of $11,723 to the Twin Towers Fund in New York. The donation will go toward aiding the families who were affected by September's terrorist attacks.

Following the attacks on the United States of America, Northwestern canceled its football game with the U.S. Naval Academy, scheduled for Sept. 15. Although Northwestern subsequently rescheduled a game with another opponent (Bowling Green), the Wildcats' department of athletics offered those who purchased tickets for the Navy game, and did not attend the Bowling Green contest, an opportunity to donate their refund to a recognized relief agency.

"The followers of Northwestern football join me in extending our thoughts and prayers to the families of those who suffered so greatly," said Rick Taylor, Northwestern's director of athletics.
