Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Still Chasing Purdue after Day Two of the NU Invite

Evanston, Ill. - After two days of the NU Swimming and Diving Invite, the men's and women's squads are still in second behind Big Ten rival Purdue. The Wildcat women have 762 points and are only 69 points off the pace of the Boilermakers. The men have a tougher road ahead of them, as they trail Purdue by 240 points, with 532.50.

Stephanie Cranston was the first Wildcat winner of the evening. The sophomore won the 400 IM with a time of 4:24.86, beating the second-place finisher by almost a full second. Junior Carmen Cosgrove continued to dominate in the 100 fly. She is undefeated in the event this season and tonight posted an NCAA 'B' time of 56.05, but her morning prelim time was even faster at 55.96.

The men also had two winners of their own in Tony Swanson and Kellan O'Connor. Swanson placed first in the 200 freestyle, touching in 1:41.48. O'Connor took first in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 49.44.

Also picking up points for the 'Cats this evening with second-place finishes were diver Ashley Carter on the 1-meter board (261.45), Susie Sample (57.35) and Swanson in the 100 back (51.18), O'Connor in the 400 IM (3:58.63) and the women's 200 medley relay team (1:44.95).

Sunday will be the third and final day of the meet with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. and finals at 3 p.m. The 1650 will take place during the break.
