MADISON, Wis. - The Northwestern women's swimming and diving team fell to Wisconsin Thursday afternoon in Madison, 181-118. The Wildcats had four event winners but it would not be enough, as the 'Cats continue to look for their first conference win. They are now 0-1-1 in dual meet competition.

Freshman Brielle Bovee (Winter Park, Fla./Lake Highland Prep.) earned the first Wildcat title of the evening by taking first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.36. Sophomore Katie Simmons (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) came in second at 1:05.72. Simmons and Bovee then swapped places in the 200 breast as Simmons was the first to touch at 2:19.25.

Senior Merritt Adams (Nocross, Ga./The Lovett School) was the first to the wall in the 200 butterfly, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:02.92. Teammate Rachel Johnson (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) was right behind in second at 2:03.56. In the 100 fly, junior transfer Carmen Cosgrove (Perth, Western Australia/Nebraska /Lumen Christi College) took first (56.88) for the second straight dual meet. Adams was second, touching in 57.15.

In the diving events, freshman Ashley Carter (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) was the 'Cats top finisher, taking second in the 3-meter (289.88) and third in the 1-meter (266.18). Her performance qualified her for the NCAA Diving Zones later this year.

The 'Cats return home Saturday for a dual with Minnesota at 2 p.m. The meet will run jointly with the men who face Eastern Illinois.
