EVANSTON, Ill. - Jackie Jenkins, a junior men's tennis player for Northwestern, made it through the first round of Qualifying Singles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Stone Mountain, Ga.
Jenkins (College Park, Ga./Westlake) came into the tournament as a 16th seed. He defeated Marcus Bernston of Boise State, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) on Tuesday, and will face Kosta Zinchanka of South Alabama in the Qualifying Round on Wednesday.
Winners of the Qualifying Round will advance to the Main Draw, which begins on Oct. 11.
Jenkins entered this week's action ranked 84th nationally by the ITA. This is the first competition he has participated in this season.
