Women's Soccer Downs Northern Illinois, 2-0

DeKALB, Ill. - The Northwestern women's soccer team won its third straight match Wednesday afternoon, defeating Northern Illinois, 2-0, in DeKalb. It marked the third straight shutout for the Wildcats.

NU is now 7-9-1 overall, while Northern fell to 3-13-1.

Kristen Pearce (Morrison, Colo./Bear Creek) scored what proved to be the gamewinner in the match's 15th minute, taking a pass from Enyo Dzata (Eugene, Ore./South) and firing home a shot from six yards out. It was Pearce's first goal of the 2001 season. It was Pearce's first goal of the season.

Kate Rawsthorne (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) added the insurance with a late goal, her second of the season. Her unassisted effort came from 25 yards out and looped over the goalkeeper in the 87th minute.

The Wildcats were outshot by NIU, 7-2, in the first half but came roaring back to outshoot the Huskies 16-2 in the second half. Susie McCreery (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) had five first-half saves to earn the shutout.

Northwestern closes out the regular season Sunday afternoon, meeting Loyola-Chicago at the Ramblers' home field at 1 p.m. The match is a makeup for the contest that was originally scheduled for September 16.
