Northwestern's women's swim team rounded out a successful weekend by taking first place in their annual NU relay event. The Wildcats won seven of the 11 relays, finishing with 202 points.
Their next closest opponent was Illinois at 176. Indiana rounded out the Big Ten contingency with 158 points. UW-Milwaukee placed fourth with 116 points and Illinois-Chicago was fifth with 98.
Four of the seven wins came in freestyle events, including a five-second victory in the 1,500 freestyle (15:06.32). NU also registered wins in the 800 freestyle (7:38.29), 500 freestyle (4:33.22) and 200 freestyle (1:36.39).
The 'Cats three other wins came in the custom 400 IM relay. This race requires all four swimmers to swim a length using each four strokes. The 'Cats came in 3 seconds faster than Indiana.
The 'Cats started out the competition strong with a 2 1/2 second win in the 300 butterfly (2:55.35)-the first event of the afternoon.
NU's seventh race victory came in the 300 breast (3:16.40), giving them a win in every stroke except except the backstroke. The 'Cats took third in the 300 backstroke (2:54.86).
The 'Cats are back in action on Thu., Nov. 8 when they travel to Wisconsin to face the Badgers in Big Ten dual competition.
