EAST LANSING, Mich. - Freshman Thomas Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and junior Jackie Jenkins (College Park, Ga./Westlake) will play in the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket Sunday morning at the Midwest Regionals in East Lansing, Mich.
The 10th-seeded duo defeated Miller-Wakefield of Purdue, 9-8(3), in the second round. They went up against the 6th seed, Haddock-Talarico of Notre Dame, and defeated them 8-3. They will face Kosta-Zeder of Illinois at 11 a.m. on Sunday in the quarterfinals.
The doubles victory was redemption for Jenkins, the 14th singles seed, after falling to 19th seed Luis Haddock 7-6(4), 6-1 in singles action Saturday morning.
Hanus lost to 9th seed Thomas Haug of Minnesota 6-3, 6-3. Junior Josh Axler (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) also lost in the third round, falling to 8th seed Milan Rakvica of Indiana, 6-4,6-3. Senior Jamie Sahara (Santa Maria, Calif./St. Joseph) was defeated by Ben Cox of Michigan, 6-1, 7-6(5).
