EVANSTON, Ill. - Competing in its first event in nearly a month, Northwestern's men's tennis team travels to East Lansing, Mich., this weekend for the Midwest Regional Tournament.
Five individuals and two doubles teams will compete for the Wildcats. Junior Jackie Jenkins (College Park, Ga./Westlake) is seeded 15th in singles and drew a first-round bye.
Junior Josh Axler (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman), senior Ryan Edlefsen (Eden Prairie, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson), senior Jamie Sahara (Santa Maria, Calif./St. Joseph) and freshman Tom Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) begin play on Friday.
In doubles action, the tandem of Jenkins and Hanus are seeded 10th in the tournament. Edlefsen will team up with senior Joost Hol (Newport Beach, Calif./Foothill) for first-round competition on Saturday.
"This is the first of three straight tournaments for us," head coach Paul Torricelli said. "We look forward to playing again-we've only had one tournament so far and really need the competition.
"The regional is a great early-season test for us."
