Evanston, Ill. - The Indiana Hoosiers showed why they are one of the best teams in the nation this weekend at Lakeside Field, defeating the Wildcats 3-0 in Big Ten play Sunday afternoon.
Indiana came out tough, scoring in the sixth minute of play. Bobby St. Aubin deflected a Mike Ambersley shot past NU starting goalie Adam Grossman (Potomac, Md./Churchill) to put the Hoosiers up 1-0.
Less than four minutes later, All-American Pat Noonan beat the defense to notch an unassisted goal. Ryan Hammer tacked on the final Hoosier goal in the 38th minute.
With 2:36 left in the first half, play was suspended for a 38 minutes due to lighting in the area. The teams returned to play the final minutes of the first half, then quickly switched sides to start the second.
Ryan Pederson (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville) replaced Grossman in goal during the changeover. On the day, Grossman recorded three saves and gave up three goal. Pederson held IU scoreless in the second half, stopping two shots.
