BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Northwestern field hockey team scored early, but not enough in taking a 2-1 overtime loss to Louisville Saturday in Bloomington, Ind.

Junior Juli Fomenko (Campbell, Calif./Los Gatos) got the scoring started when her only shot of the day found its way past Louisville goalie Christy Hershey. Fomenko's goal gave NU a 1-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half.

But the Cardinals stormed right back, tying the game with a goal in the final seconds of the half.

The contest would remain even through the second half and 10 minutes of the first overtime. Louisville finally broke the tie with a goal off the stick of Olivia Netzler in the sudden victory overtime.

The loss drops the 'Cats to 2-8, and they are next in action on Friday when they travel to Penn State. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. cst.
