Cross Country Earns Split at UIC Home Opener

Sept. 2, 2001

Chicago, Ill. - Northwestern women's cross country team began its 2001 campaign this weekend by running in the fifth annual Illinois-Chicago Home Opener Sunday, Sept. 2. NU placed two runners in the top 10 and finished the day with a win over host UIC but a loss to Loyola.

In her first race as head coach of the Wildcats, Amy Tush held out her major runners in order to get her younger women experience in a college meet.

Freshman Diana Hossfeld (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) led the Wildcats, turning in a third-place performance in her first college race. Hossfeld's time of 11:22 was 27 seconds off the pace set by medalist Alana Crisman of Loyola. Senior Sara Jurek (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) was the 'Cats' other top 10 performer, turning in a time of 11:43.

Northwestern returns to action Sept. 7, when the Wildcats travel downstate to run in the Bradley Open. Race time in Peoria is set for 5:30 p.m.
