Elizabeth Burden Advances to Match Play at U.S. Women's Amateur

WICHITA, Kan. - Northwestern junior-to-be Elizabeth Burden advanced to match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship. Burden carded 74-75--149 on 36 holes of stroke play to finish 7-over par at Flint Hills National Golf Club.

As a result, Burden was one of 64 players to advance to match play, which begins Wednesday morning. Burden was placed in the upper bracket and was set to tee off at 8:26 a.m. against Natalie Easterly, who carded 152 in stroke play competition.

The first 18-hole round of match play will take place Wednesday morning, with the second round taking place in the afternoon. On Thursday morning, the third round of match play will take place, while in the afternoon the quarterfinal matches will take place. Semifinal matches will be contested on Friday, and the 36-hole championship match will go off Saturday.

Action at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship can be seen on ESPN Thursday from 3-5 p.m., Friday from 3:30-5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 3-5 p.m.

Burden's Northwestern teammate, Emily Gilley, did not fare so well. After winning the Illinois Women's Open for the second straight year over the weekend, the Wildcat senior-to-be struggled on the Flint Hills course. She carded 81-84--165 to finish at 23-over par.
