HIGH WYCOMBE, England - The USA erased an early deficit and defeated Australia, 14-8, to claim its fourth consecutive International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) World Cup title today. Kelly Amonte Hiller, the head coach at Northwestern, aided the cause with a goal and two assists. She ended the World Cup with 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points.

Cherie Greer, the USA captain, had three ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers to go along with one goal to earn player of the match honors.

The USA, which had never trailed in the championships, fell behind 2-0 five minutes into the match. But the Americans then scored seven of the next nine goals to take a 7-4 lead and never looked back in winning their 12th consecutive game in World Cup competition.

Amonte Hiller scored her only goal to break a 3-3 tie and give the Americans their first lead. After drawing an off-the-ball foul for an 11-meter mark on the wide hash, Amonte Hiller ran it into the center of the fan and scored.

Amonte Hiller's assists came on the first two goals of the second half, giving the USA a 9-5 lead just 1:43 into the stanza. On the first, she rolled the crease and dumped the ball to Dani Gallagher, who converted the pass 31 seconds into the period. Just 1:12 later, Amonte Hiller found Michele Uhlfelder on the crease for a quickstick goal.

Amonte Hiller was also outstanding on draw controls throughout the day.

The United States has now won five of the six World Cup competitions, and is 24-2 in its last 26 matches. The 2005 IFWLA World Cup will be held in the United States.
