EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University men's golf coach Pat Goss has certainly piled up an impressive list of accolades during his five years as a head coach at his alma mater. Now he is being recognized for duties beyond those at Northwestern.
Recently, golfdigest.com conducted a survey to find the 50 Greatest Teachers of the Game, talking to the top people in golf. The site also included a section that rated the top golf instructors in each state, according to their peers. Goss was rated 11th among all the golf instructors in the state of Illinois.
Goss is one of just two Big Ten coaches listed overall (Dennis Tiziani of Wisconsin is the other), and he is the only college coach on the Illinois list. The state of Illinois' top instructor, according to his peers, is Dr. Jim Suttie of Cog Hill Golf & CC in Lemont. Suttie was also hailed as the 11th-best Teacher of the Game overall.
