EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's lacrosse coach Kelly Amonte-Hiller was named as one of 16 women to represent the United States in the 2001 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations' World Cup. The World Cup will be played from July 7-14 in High Wycombe, England.
The 16 players were selected from the 24-member US Elite team following a final tryout at the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament May 26-27 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
Amonte-Hiller was a member of the 1997 World Cup champions, as the US team has won three straight World Cup titles and four of the five championships since the first World Cup was played in 1982. The US defeated Australia, 3-2, in overtime to win the 1997 championship in Eodgawa, Japan.
This year's roster includes 10 members from the 1997 team and four players from the 1993 championship team. The remaining eight competitors form the Elite team will serve as alternates for the team.
