Stillwater, Okla. - The Northwestern men's golf squad struggled through the first round of the NCAA Central Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Course (par 72, 7,027) in Stillwater, Okla. NU shot an opening round 16-over-par 304 and is 11 strokes behind the 10th place team. The top 10 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships. Kent State leads the field of 27, firing a first round 1-over-par 289.
Luke Donald and Scott Harrington both shot first round 74's and are currently in a tie for 37th. Chris Thayer carded the next best round for NU with a 77 and is in 88th place.
The `Cats have two more rounds to make up ground and break into the top 10. Tomorrow's first group will tee off at 7:30 am and a second group will follow around 1 pm.
