Kentucky Defeats Virginia, 4-0, in Opening Round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Regional

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Kentucky women's tennis team won its opening round match at the NCAA Championships Regional at Northwestern's Vandy Christie Tennis Center, defeating Virginia 4-0. The second-seeded Wildcats took the early lead by winning the doubles point. The 29th-ranked pair of Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten easily won at No. 2, 8-0. Twentieth-ranked Brooke Skeen and Lauren Rookledge secured the first point by winning at No. 1, 8-3.

After dropping the first two games to Laura James at No. 5 singles, Rookledge knocked out 12 straight to take the match 6-2, 6-0 and give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Skeen quickly gave Kentucky its third point of the day by defeating Christie Schweer at No. 3 (6-3, 6-2). Leigh Bradwell fired an ace on match point at No. 4 (6-4, 6-1) to clinch the Wildcat win.

Kentucky will face the winner of the Northwestern/UIC match tomorrow at noon.
