CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Northwestern women's golf team struggled through the first day of competition at the NCAA East Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Wildcats shot a 26-over-par 314 and in 18th place, 28 shots off the pace set by Duke.
Elizabeth Burden and Hana Kim each shot a 6-over-par 78 and are tied for 55th place individually. Emily Gilley and Lauren Grzebien are in 65th place after an opening-round 79.
The `Cats return to the links tomorrow for the second round, then wrap up play on Saturday with a final 18. The top eight teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. NU competed in the NCAA's for the first time ever last season after finishing second to Duke at the Regional.
