EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's golf team won its third team title this weekend at the Fossum Spartan Intercollegiate in East Lansing, Mich. NU shot rounds of 278-287-286=851 to finish 10 strokes ahead of second-place Minnesota in the final tuneup before next weekend's Big Ten Championships.
Senior Luke Donald carded a final round 7-under-par 64 to win his third consecutive tournament and the 12th of his collegiate career. His 54-hole total of 205 is the third best in NU history, and his final-round 64 is third in the record books for an individual round.
Junior Chris Thayer capped off a career weekend, finishing third with a three-round, 4-under-par 209. Freshman Tom Johnson also placed in the Top 10 for the Wildcats, with rounds of 71-70-74=215.
