EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team lost to Iowa, 2-0, in Saturday's second game at Rocky Miller Park in Evanston. Junior Gabe Ribas (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) wishes he could have one pitch back as a second inning, Brad Carlson home run, proved to be the game winner. Alex Dvorsky led off with a double to right and Carlson drove a 1-0 fastball over the right field wall ending the scoring for both teams.
Ribas threw his third complete game, striking out seven and walking none. After the second inning, Ribas faced just 17 hitters, two more than the minimum. Ribas has struck out 60 hitters compared to just 18 walks in his 63.1 innings this season. He has a 3.3-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Iowa starter, Chad Blackwell continued his dominance over NU hitters, scattering four hits in six innings. Reed Pawelk threw the seventh for his fifth save of the season. Blackwell has thrown 13 consecutive scoreless innings against the Wildcats dating back to last year's perfect game (4-0, April 29) in Iowa City.
Freshman David Gresky (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Ignatius) had two of NU's four hits, stroking a single and a double in the contest. Gresky raised his average to .342 on the year. Junior Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted) and Todd Morgan (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) each went 1-for-3 with Roeder hitting a single and Morgan hitting his fifth double of the season.
The game lasted just 1:31, three minutes longer than Game 1 (1:28).
