EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern softball team fell to No. 21 Michigan, 6-0 and 5-1, Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich. The `Cats tallied one hit in the first game to the Wolverines seven, and four hits in the second game to UM's 10.

Northwestern's only hit in Game 1 came at the very beginning of the game, when freshman leadoff hitter Carri Leto (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla) singled to left field. Michigan scored two runs in bottom of the second and then four more in the sixth for the victory. NU pitcher Brie Brown (Nashville, Tenn./Harputh Hall) struck out four in tossing a complete game, while the Wolverine's Marissa Young struck out 11 Wildcats.

The `Cats scored one run in the second game when sophomore Alyson Schulz (San Diego, Calif./Serra) singled to right field to score Leto. Michigan scored one run in the first inning, three in the fifth and one in the seventh. Sophomore Lauren Schwendimann (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) gave up five runs on 10 hits while striking out three.

Northwestern's record falls to 18-21, and the Wildcats travel to Michigan State for single games on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game time is set for 1 p.m.
